Dragonfly Note Cards

I got a third project in for the day! This is unheard of, but I am trying to make the most of my last week of freedom before I go back to school. This is going to be a tough semester. It may only be two classes, but they are pretty intense ones. I will be taking Anatomy & Physiology and my EMT-B class. In addition to school I work full time and go to the gym three days a week. I'm not sure how often I will be able to get in crafting. I hope to be able to do something at least once a week, but only time will tell.

This little project I did today is a set of three notecards. The notecards are 3 1/2"x3 1/2." I used white cardstock for the base. I then cut some shimmery dark green cardstock at 3 1/4"x3 1/4." Finally, I cut some green striped paper at 3"x3." I used Pagoda to cut the dragonflies. They are cut at 4." This makes them about 2 1/2 to 2 3/4" each. I put one on each card. The main part of the dragonfly is the same shimmery dark green cardstock I used for the mat. I then cut a lighter green cardstock for the wings and added some firefly Stickles to give it some shimmer.

I made this card for 365 Cards' "Day 309" Pretty Pairs challenge. The pretty pairs for this day is green and stripes.

House Mouse Cards

Here are a couple of cards I made today using House Mouse stamps! The first one is a 5"x7" card. I used a shimmery blue cardstock for the base. I then cut a piece of white cardstock 1/4" smaller. I then embossed it in my Cuttlebug, using one of the Winter Frolic Companion folders and adhered it to the card base. The umbrella is from Pagoda, cut at 5." The sentiment is from Cindy Loo, cut at 3" using the fit to length feature. I just used the "get well" and tossed the "soon" part of the sentiment. I added glossy accents to the sentiment. My image was stamped on some white cardstock and colored with my Prismacolor colored pencils. I then trimmed it down and cut a mat from shimmery blue cardstock 1/8" larger. I adhered it to the card base using foam tape. I made this card for these challenges:
My other card for today is 4 1/2"x6 1/4" and made from kraft cardstock. I cut a piece of light blue cardstock 1/4" smaller than the card base and embossed it with the Cherry Blossoms folder. I cut another piece of kraft cardstock at 4 5/8"x3 3/8" and some orange cardstock at 4 3/8"x3 1/8." I layered them together to be the mat for my image. I stamped it on white cardsock and colored it with my Prismacolor pencils. I then trimmed it to 4 1/4"x3" and adhered it to the mats I created. I adhered that all down to the card base. I then wrapped it with some light blue ribbon and some orange ribbon. I then stamped my sentiement in pearlescent sky blue ink by Tsukineko onto some kraft cardstock. I cut it at 1 1/4"x5/8" and cut a mat for it from some orange cardstock, which is cut 1/8" larger. I used some pop-dots to adhere that in the middle of the ribbon.

I made this card for the following challenges:

Word of the Day Cards Part 1

This whole week at 365 Cards they are doing a word of the day challenge. Each day they have a new word and you have to make a card using that word. I'm not sure why, but I wound up waiting until the end of the week to work on my cards for them, but here they are, at least the first three. I will have the final three tomorrow. I also combined them with other challenges, I will let you know by each card what other challenge is represented. :) And, like always, I will let you know how I made them.

Monday's word of the day was "Wisdom." I made this card using the sketch from Clean & Simple and I also used the challenge at My Sheri Crafts, which was "organic." She asked for your interpretation of the theme. To me it was a natural feeling card, so I used greens, browns and creams for my colors and a tree as my image. The card is 5 1/2"x3 5/8." I used a shimmery green cardstock for the card base. I cut the cream cardstock using Pagoda and the Kanji Word feature at 5." I then embossed the top part of the cut with the Japanese Scales embossing folder. I wrapped a ribbon around the card and then added my image. I used one of the bonsai trees from Pagoda, cut at 2 1/2." I used my computer to write the sentiment for the inside (which I don't have a picture of). It says, "Wisdom is not attained by years, but by ability." -Plautus

Tuesday's word of the day was "Believe." I used sketch #174 at Mojo Monday for this one and the color combo at Crafting with Cristina. Her color challenge was black, white and grey or silver. This is a 5"x5" card. I used white cardstock for the base. I then cut some black cardstock using Paper Lace at 4 3/4." I then glittered the cut out pieces of the lace with some silver glitter. The two small, white butterflies are from a Martha Stewart punch. The large, silver butterfly is from Picturesque and is cut at 1." The sentiment, "Believe," is from Gypsy Wanderings and cut at 2." I left the inside blank on this card.
Wednesday's word was "Bliss." I made this card using sketch #99 from Card Patterns. I made this a 4 1/2"x6 1/4" card. I used a light green cardstock for the base. I then cut a piece of floral patterned paper 1/8" smaller than the card base. I cut some more of the light green cardstock at 4"x5" and then used an EK Succes border punch at the top of the piece. The green patterned paper is cut at 3 3/4"x4." I then wrapped a ribbon around the piece and tied a knot with a small piece of the ribbon and attached it with a glue dot. I didn't have enough ribbon to actually tie it around the piece, so I improvised. The label with the sentiment on it is from Lacy Labels, cut at 2 1/2."

Kimono Gate-Fold Card

So today I did some cleaning of my craft area. I was organizing my buttons when I came across this frog clasp style button. That button inspired the card. I decided to use it as the closure for a gate-fold card. The card is 6 1/2"x6" when folded. The kimono is from Pagoda and cut at 6." I used my Gypsy to cut the layer and the hide countour feature on it to not cut out the heart on the kimono. All the patterned paper is from the Far East Stack by DCWV and the solid papers are from my stash. The stamp on the inside is also from my stash.

Third Time's a Charm

I don't know why but I had some real trouble making a card that I liked for this week's Jitterbuggin' challenge. I made three before I actually liked the end result, like they say, "third time's a charm." The rules this week for Jitterbuggin' were: follow the sketch, use a Cricut animal (0r two, or three...), and add stripes. I think it was the stripes rule that had me, I'm not sure why, but I had some problems with finding striped paper or striped anything that I liked with my creation.
This one is the card I actually liked. The cuts are from Pagoda, the panda is cut at 2 1/2," the branch at 1 1/2," and the flower at 1." I used the Plum Blossoms embossing folder for the cream cardstock that the panda is matted on and some ruby slipper Stickles on the flowers. The paper used as the base of the card is from the Far East stack by DCWV and the striped paper is from my stash as is the stamp. I will also be entering this into Paper Playtime's "zoo" challenge.
