Cupcakes

I made two cards today.

I made them the same, except for the image.  I used the Silhouette to make one card and the Cricut to make the other.

The card base is 5 1/2"x4 1/4" and made of kraft card stock.  I embossed the front of the card with a Cuttlebug embossing folder called "cane back chair," I like the basket weave look of it.  I cut a strip of white card stock at 2 1/4"x3 3/4" (on the Silhouette card) and 1 3/4"x3 1/2" (on the Cricut card).  The sentiment is from Scrappy Moms Stamps, the Love Notes set.

The cupcake on the Silhouette card is from Alla' K, and is called "cupcake with hearts" (#15993).  I cut it at 2 1/2."  I covered the confetti sprinkles with star dust Stickles and added a red heart-shaped gem to top off the cupcake.  I then accented the cupcake liner with a white gel pen.  I finished off the card with some red bling.

The cupcake on the Cricut card is from the "Tiny Treasures" Creative Memories cartridge.  I cut it at 2 1/4."  I also welded a heart from "Tie the Knot" onto the cherry.  I covered the heart-shaped cherry with x-mas red Stickles. The white confetti sprinkles are covered in star dust Stickles.  I finished off the card with some red bling.

I also finished the inside of these cards.  The inside is the exact same for both.  I cut a dark blue mat at 5 1/4"x4" and a light blue mat at 5"x4 3/4."  I used two stamps from Scrappy Moms Stamps, the Birthday Hugs set.

Shamrock Shaker Card

I made a card to gear up for St. Patrick's Day.

The card is 5 1/2"x4 1/4" and I used an olive green card stock for the card base.  I used Cricut Design Space to create the shaker card front.  The shamrock is from the "St. Patrick's Day" digital cartridge.  The shamrock is from the image with the rainbow.  I hid all contours except the shamrock and then sized it to fit nicely on the card front.  The patterned piece is cut at 5 1/4"x4" and it is all popped up on two layers of foam tape.  I also used foam tape around the image so that I could fill it with green sequins.

The sentiment is from Scrappy Moms Stamps, the Spring Fling set.  I stamped it in green and heat embossed it with sparkly embossing powder.  I then trimmed the card stock on which it was stamped into a banner.  I finished off the card with some green gems.

Baby Name Sign

One of my friends had her third baby, this time a girl.  So, I got to make a girly name sign.  I don't usually do girly, so it was fun to do something a little different.

I have the sign hanging above one of my bookshelves, so ignore the not-so-kid friendly books such as H.P. Lovecraft or Edgar Allan Poe.

I used a float frame to make this one.  The frame is 16"x8 1/2."  I cut some patterned paper with clouds on it to 6" tall.  I had to use two pieces to make it the 14" length, but the image mostly covers the seam.  I put the paper between the two panes of glass of the float frame.  The images and name are all cut from vinyl and adhered to the outside of the front pane of glass.

The pegasus image is from "Fantasy," a digital cartridge.  It is cut at 7."  The butterflies are part of a cut from "Kate's ABCs."  The image is on page 56 of the handbook.  I hid everything but the butterflies and sized them to fit the sign.  The larger butterfly is 1.87" and the smaller one is 1.37."  The name is made from the Tiny Treasures cartridge by Creative Memories.  You get the font using the "sweet pea" feature.

My Quilt is Done!

All right, so I have been working on this quilt for many, many months now.  I finally finished piecing it all together around the New Year.  Then I had to make the back and get the batting.  I sent it off to the quilter a couple of weeks ago and got it back last weekend.  Then all I had to do was bind it, which I managed to finish today!

The quilt is about 90"x95" and was made specifically for our bed so that it would drape and cover the entire mattress.  The pattern I used was actually for a wall hanging.  I had to modify it slightly to make it into such a large quilt.  

  I went with a black and white theme, and added the pop of yellow, which I love.  I got most of the fabrics at work, JoAnn Fabrics.  The only one I got elsewhere is the fabric that is also used on the pillows.  It is in the pattern of the wallpaper in the BBC TV show "Sherlock."  I absolutely love the show and I just love the pattern and sprang for a couple of yards of fabric with that pattern printed on it.  I used it in the quilt and had enough left over to make a couple of pillows in the "Sherlock" theme.

Here are a couple of shots to better see the borders and binding.  The quilter did a lovely job as well.

The Union Jack pillow was one I purchased.  I made the other two though.  I bought two 16" pillow forms and then made custom pillowcases for them.  I used that "Sherlock" themed fabric on the front and just used plain black on the back.  I sewed the cases so that they are an envelope style, meaning they have a flap in the back so that I can remove the pillow for washing if necessary.  That way I didn't have to mess with a zipper.

I left one of the pillows plain, but if you have see the show you know that Sherlock and John have a smiley face spray painted on to their wall.  I just had to recreate that look on one of the pillows.  I made the smiley face myself by manipulating some images in Cricut Design Space.  The outer circle is called "ring" and is on the "Paper Pups" cartridge.  I sized it to 5.85."  The eyes and smile of the face were made using a cut from the "Toy Story" cartridge.  It is a face of Lotso Bear, using the icon feature, found on page 66.  I kept just the dots of the eyes and his smile, hiding all other contours.  I sized the face to fit in the circle, then cut it out of freezer paper.  I was then able to iron the freezer paper on to the fabric and use it as a stencil to paint my image on to the pillowcase.  I used some yellow screen print fabric paint.

I am currently working on the bed skirt to finish off our bed.  I also have plans to make some curtains.  Someday soon I will actually have a grown-up bedroom of which I will be proud.  Getting this quilt finished was the first major step in that direction.  :)

Monochrome Rainbow

Today's card is a thank you for the woman who did the quilting on the quilt I just made.  She did a beautiful job and I just wanted another way to express my gratitude for the wonderful work she did and also for doing it so quickly.

The card is smaller than I usually make, but I needed it to fit in an odd sized envelope.  The card is 3 1/2"x5."  I used kraft card stock for the base.  The light pink piece is 2"x4 1/4," and the dark pink piece is 2 1/8"x4 3/8."  I stamped the light pink piece with the word "thanks" repeatedly, using a shimmery pink ink.  The sentiment is from the Sentiment Sampler set by Paper Smooches.  In fact, all the stamps are from Paper Smooches.

The rainbow is from the Spectrum set.  I colored it in with varying shades of pink.  I also highlighted the clouds with a very pale pink.  I then cut out the rainbow and adhered it with foam tape.  The large word, "thanks," is from the Chit Chat set.  I stamped it on green card stock, then fussy cut it all out.  To finish off the card I added some green sequins.

It's a Bird, It's a Pla- No Wait It Is a Bird!

I have made this super bird card before and you can see it here.  This time I changed up the colors and used the "bird-day" sentiment.

Super bird is from "3 Birds on Parade."  It was cut at 3 3/4."  The shadow was cut twice and adhered at just the top.  The beak is covered in glitter and glossy accents.  The eye also has glossy accents on it.  I added a little faux stitching to the patch on the cape, then glued on a button.  The sentiment is a set of three different stamps.  The "bird-day" part of the sentiment is from My Pink Stamper.  "Wishes" is from the Simple Sentiments set and "super" is from Hooray for Birthdays.  Both sets are from Scrappy Moms Stamps.  I stamped the word "super" by doing some careful masking on the word "surprise."

I got a second card made today.  This one is super quick and simple.  I think it will make a  nice non-traditional Valentine's Day card to give to my husband.

The card is 5 1/2"x4 1/4" and made from white card stock.  The orange wood grain paper is cut at 5 15/16"x4 3/16."  The white rectangle is 3 1/4"x2 1/4."  The camp fire image is from Paper Smooches, the Happy Camper set.  I colored it with Prismacolor colored pencils.  The sentiment is from Scrappy Moms Stamps, the Happy Campers set.  I finished off the card with some yellow sequins.

Baby Boo

Well, I have been absent a while.  I am back in school and between that and work I don't have a whole lot of free time.  And lately, what free time I have has gone towards working on my quilt.  Well, now the quilt is all set and waiting to go to the quilter, so I have some time to work on some paper crafts.

Here is what I made today:

The card is 5 1/2"x4 1/4."  I used white card stock for the base, then trimmed some purple card stock at 5 1/2"x3 3/4."  The pink plaid is cut at 5 1/2"x3 1/4."  I wrapped the top of the card with some orchid twine from The Twinery and added some yellow and ivory sequins.

The adorable image is of Boo, from "Monsters, Inc."  She can be found on the "Best of Pixar" cartridge.  I used the print and cut feature on her so I wouldn't have to glue down all those little pieces.  I love that feature!  She was cut at 3."  The sentiment is from Paper Smooches, the Salutations set.
